Quenching and Tempering Salts

DuBois Quenching and Tempering Salts are composed of nitrite &/or nitrate-based chemistries. They are completely water-soluble, easy to wash off parts, and have high heat transfer rates and heat capacity.

Thermo-Quench

Nitrite/Nitrate Based Salt

Tempering C-ALHT

Nitrate Based Salt

Product Melting Point Working Range
Thermo-Quench 288°F (142°C) 300°F - 1100°F (149°C - 593°C)
Tempering C-ALHT 430°F (221°C) 480°F - 1100°F (249°C - 593°C)
High Speed Hardening Salts

High Speed Hardening Salts

Large numbers of tools can be safely hardened in a short time frame using a high-speed steel (HSS) salt bath setup. These salts are formulated for proper heat treatment of HSS by balancing the salt’s composition to ensure a neutral bath, reduce drag-out or carryover, and to promote easy cleaning. Tool steels can be heat-treated rapidly and uniformly to eliminate distortion without oxidation or decarburization (pitting) on the surface of parts.

High Speed 75

Barium Chloride Based Salt

800 Neutral Salt

Barium Chloride Based Salt

Product Melting Point Working Range
Sta-Hard 17 1175°F (635°C) 1300°F - 1900°F (704°C - 1038°C)
High Speed 75 1750°F (954°C) 1900°F - 2400°F (1038°C - 1316°C)
800 Neutral Salt 850°F (454°C) 925°F - 1250°F (496°C - 677°C)
Neutral Salts

Neutral Salts

DuBois Neutral Salts are balanced mixtures of chlorides designed to provide a pH-neutral salt bath. They provide excellent fluidity, low drag-out rates, highly stable with routine replenishing, and are not hygroscopic. Nu-Sal can be used for pretreating and hardening a variety of steels.

Nu-Sal

Chloride Based Salt

Product Melting Point Working Range
Nu-Sal 1230°F (665°C) 1300°F - 1650°F (704°C - 899°C)
Salt Bath Rectifiers

Salt Bath Rectifiers

DuBois Rectifier Pellets help maintain optimum hardening neutral salt bath conditions by removing harmful oxides, which develop in the working salt at temperatures above 1400°F. These products are designed for the accurate control of the rectification process and do not produce sludge.

Aluminum Salt Bath Brazing

Aluminum Salt Bath Brazing

Molten salt baths are recognized as the ideal media for brazing aluminum assemblies. DuBois dip brazing salts are lithium chloride-based and offer continuous temperature control, rapid and uniform heating rates, and natural buoyancy that minimizes distortion. Alu-Braze 860 meets the latest revisions of AMS 3415 and AWS A5.31M/A5.31.

Alu-Braze® 860

Lithium Chloride Based Salt

Product Melting Point Working Range
Alu-Braze 860 860°F (460°C) 900°F - 1200°F (482°C - 649°C)
Rubber Curing Salts

Rubber Curing Salts

Molten salt baths offer several key advantages over oil, hot air, and steam methods to cure rubber extrusions. These advantages include higher heat capacity, greater rate of heat exchange, shorter curing times, and lower levels of heat loss. Parcure 275 is a eutectic nitrate/nitrate inorganic salt mixture that is exceptionally chemically and thermally stable when used within its working range to give repeatable results.

Parcure 275

Nitrite/Nitrate Based Salt

Product Melting Point Working Range
Parcure 275 275°F (135°C 300°F - 575°F (149°C - 302°C)
Stop-Off Masking Compounds

Stop-Off Masking Compounds

DuBois water-based stop-off masking compounds offer protection of steel surfaces from carburization or decarburi- zation during heating for hardening, carburizing, annealing, normalizing, forging, or rolling. When dipped, painted, or sprayed onto a surface, No Carb can provide an effective stop-off case depth of up to 0.12 inches (3 millimeters).

No Carb

Water-Based Masking Compound

Product Working Range
No Carb 1400°F - 1700°F (760°C - 927°C)
