The papermaking environment can be an ideal place for biological growth. The paper machine system is well suited to microbiological growth due to the warm, wet environment that is a rich source of nutrients.
Microbiological control can be a critical aspect of paper mill deposit control. Papermaking equipment can be subject to colonization by slime producing organisms, resulting in breaks and defect. Stock chests can be an ideal low oxygen environment for anaerobic organisms to strive and produce odorous, unhealthy, or explosive gases. Coatings, pigments, fillers, and other process additives can be spoiled by biological growth and become less effective.
