DuBois provides unique stock additives that prevent contaminant issues throughout the process.
Pitch Control Agent
EXP-P5200 is a blend of dispersants and polymeric surface-active materials specifically designed to control deposition from Kraft and sulfite pitch. EXP-P5200 is applied into the pulp mill system to detackify pitch particles before they agglomerate.
NexShield P103 is a unique concentrated pulp and paper industry contaminants control agent and organic talc substitute. Utilizing a unique blend of polymers NEXSHIELD P103 will help control pitch particle size and stabilizes the particles by surrounding them with a hard polymeric molecular shell that resists melting on heated pulp drying equipment. This dual-action keeps pitch particles small and stable allowing them to be easily removed from the pulp during washing stages and detackifies them preventing them from forming deposits on process equipment. In this manner, NexShield P103 also acts as a highly effective talc replacement.
Pitch and Stickies Control Agent
NexShield X102 is a concentrated pulp and paper industry contaminants control agent. The product has a strong affinity for hydrophobic materials such as wood pitch and stickies. As a result, NexShield X102 forms a hydrophilic shell around hydrophobic pitch and stickies particles, allowing them to remain small and dispersed in solution. In addition, the glass transition temperature of the NexShield X102 is over 250°F (121°C), which means the particles do not become tacky even at high-temperature contact areas like dryer cans.
NexShield X102 quickly bonds to hydrophobic substances but has no affinity for wood fibers.
Pulp Mill Specialty Chemical
PS-87 is a multi-functional pulp mill specialty product. The product functions as an antistatic agent in fluff pulp manufacturing. It is also an effective pitch scavenger. In addition, PS-87 is effective at controlling anionic trash and contaminants. The product also acts as a dye fixative.
When preventing deposit issues before the paper machine is not feasible, treatments for fabrics & rolls can be an effective method of contaminant control. Fabric & roll treatments are applied through showering to modify the treated surfaces & make them less attractive to contaminants.
Paper Machine Fabric Performance Enhancer
Fabrix Shield B11 is a surface modifier for paperboard and unbleached paper machine fabrics and rolls. The product absorbs onto the hydrophobic surface of paper machine fabrics and rolls, which then become more hydrophilic (water loving).
By changing the nature of the fabric, Fabrix Shield B11 provides several advantages. The first advantage is deposit control. Most materials that cause deposit issues on a machine fabric are hydrophobic, including “stickies” from recycled fiber and coated broke, wood pitch, synthetic sizes, and waxes. These materials are attracted to the hydrophobic surfaces of machine fabrics.
Secondly, Fabrix Shield B11 can improve the moisture handling of a press fabric. This can have benefits including reduced crushing or press rewet, more even sheet moisture profile, and improved fabric performance throughout its life. Fabrix Shield B11 can work in conjunction or as a replacement for press fabric cleaning chemistry.
Fabrix Shield B11 can also work in conjunction with high pressure traversing cleaning shower systems and can improve the performance of those systems. Any hydrophobic deposits that accumulate on a fabric will be less tightly bound and more easily removed by the showering system.
Fabrix Shield B11 is not a cationic barrier treatment. It does not build up on fabrics, reduce drainage, or require periodic stripping with caustic.
Applications areas for Fabrix Shield B11 include forming wires, press fabrics, dryer fabrics, pulp washer or save-all screens, and synthetic roll surfaces. The product is particularly effective for mill producing paperboard, medium or unbleached tissue/towel/napkin.
Fabrix Shield T10 is a surface modifier for paper machine fabrics and rolls. The product absorbs onto the hydrophobic surface of paper machine fabrics and rolls, which then become more hydrophilic (water loving).
By changing the nature of the fabric, Fabrix Shield T10 provides several advantages. The first benefit is deposit control. Most substances that cause deposit issues on a machine fabric are hydrophobic, including “stickies” from recycled fiber, tissue mill converting broke, and coated broke. Wood pitch, synthetic sizes, and waxes are also hydrophobic soils. These materials are attracted to the hydrophobic surfaces of machine fabrics.
Secondly, Fabrix Shield T10 can improve the moisture handling of a press fabric. This can have benefits including faster new fabric break-in, more even sheet moisture profile, and improved fabric performance throughout its life. Fabrix Shield T10 can work in conjunction or as a replacement for press fabric cleaning chemistry.
Fabrix Shield T10 can also work in conjunction with high pressure traversing cleaning shower systems and can improve the performance of those systems. Any hydrophobic deposits that accumulate on a fabric will be less tightly held and more easily removed by the showering systems.
Fabrix Shield T10 is not a cationic barrier treatment. It does not build up on fabrics, reduce drainage, or require periodic stripping with caustic.
Application areas for Fabrix Shield T10 include forming wires, press fabrics, dryer fabrics, TAD fabrics, transfer belts, pulp washer or save-all screens, and synthetic roll surfaces.
Deposit Control Agent
Nexus Concentrate 3620 is a triple concentrate version of DuBois’ patented Nexus DC 3600 series of products. This product is a specially formulated blend of a low molecular weight cationic polymer and surfactants designed to render paper machine surfaces resistant to deposition. It can be used on paper machine fabrics and rolls to improve runnability by reducing picking, breaks and defects.
Nexus Concentrate 3620 has been shown to be highly efficient on all types of roll covers including ceramic, synthetic rubber, polyurethane and synthetic composite. It is also effective across a wide range of grades including newsprint, linerboard, fine paper and tissue.
Nexus DC 2440 is a proprietary blend of cationic polymers and other functional agents. It can be applied to forming wires, felts, rolls, and other surfaces to prevent a number of runnability issues related to soil and deposit build-up.
Nexus DC 2440 is designed to control deposition of stickies on paper machines using a furnish of OCC, MOW, and ONP. It can also prevent build-up of starches, alkaline sizing agents, and other materials. Nexus DC 2440 is effective on a wide range of paper grades from tissue, linerboard, fine paper, and newsprint. It may be applied via showers to control stickies on forming fabrics, press felts, and rolls or directly into the stock to control deposition of stickies on the entire paper machine.
Dryer Fabric Passivation Agent
Dryer fabrics can often be the source of significant deposition problems. Due to the high temperatures in the dryer section, stickies will often mobilize and move out of the sheet to become tacky and adhere to dryer fabrics. Once on the dryer fabric, they impede the transfer of air and heat, which prevents efficient dryer section operation. In addition, these deposits can contribute to sheet defects as the deposits can cause picking and transfer back to the sheet.
Cleaning solutions can be valuable additions to stock additives & surface treatments. Fabric cleaning proves effective in eliminating pitch, stickies, & other materials such as strength resins & sizing. Ideally, cleaning should occur during production without adversely affecting machine operation.
Press Fabric and System Cleaner
Tissue and Board Machine Press Fabric Cleaner
Altrox Accel is a patented oxidizing cleaner that removes wet and dry strength resins, CMC, Yankee adhesives, and recycled fiber contaminants. Altrox Accel can remove gel-like soils that can fill the void volume of fabric, resulting in loss of permeability, sheet moisture variability, reduced drying efficiency, and reduced fabric life.
Altrox Accel is built for extremely quick wetting to maximize on-the-run cleaning applications. Fast wetting is particularly beneficial in cleaning fabric on high-speed machines or with short dwell times. Altrox Accel has been used to eliminate sodium hypochlorite batch washing of fabrics. Unlike hypochlorite, Altrox Accel can be used during production to maintain stable press fabric performance.
Machine System Cleaner
In addition to fabric cleaning, Altrox Accel is also effective as a boilout product for coater systems, paper machine systems, and other system cleaning applications.
Fabric Cleaner for High-Speed Machines
Div-O-Kleen Accel is designed to clean fabrics on high-speed machines during production. The product contains a fast-wetting surfactant package, a unique solvent blend for pitch/stickies, and alkalinity.
Alkaline Cleaner for High Speed Machine Fabrics
Felt Scrub Accel is an alkaline felt cleaner specifically formulated to be effective at high machine speeds and low product concentrations. The key differences between Felt Scrub Accel and traditional alkaline felt cleaners are its high concentration and superior wetting package. Because the product is highly concentrated, it can achieve effective levels of alkalinity in the felt at low use concentrations. Most importantly, the surfactant package in Felt Scrub Accel is built for extremely quick wetting to maximize cleaning, even with short dwell time. These combine with the properties below to make the most advanced alkaline felt cleaner available.
Additionally, Felt Scrub Accel contains additives designed to dramatically reduce or eliminate the swelling of paper fines from alkalinity. This can eliminate the reduction in fabric drainage from fines swelling, even while cleaning.
Paper Industry Solvent Cleaner
Neutra Solve 504 is a concentrated solvent cleaner designed to remove “stickie” contaminants from recycled furnishes or coated broke. The product contains a unique blend of solvents specifically selected to be more effective than other solvents commonly used in mill cleaning applications. Neutra Solve 504 is also effective against soils from paper coatings, wood pitch, binders, adhesives and other organic deposits.
Non-Caustic Fabric and System Cleaner
Sure Safe 460 is a cleaner that maintains press felt performance. Its unique blend of wetting agents and sequestrants penetrates and lifts soils, keeping them suspended for easy removal from the felt. The surfactant package in Sure Safe 460 is built for extremely quick wetting to maximize cleaning, even with short dwell time. In addition, sure Safe 460 contains no free caustic and is non-corrosive. As a result, it can be an effective alternative to highly alkaline felt cleaners.
