Oil Based Quenchant
420 Quench Oil is a clear, amber colored accelerated quench oil designed for use at quenching temperatures between 200 – 250°F (93 – 121°C). Also, it can be used as a quench from temperatures as high as 1750°F. The cooling rate during the first stages of quenching enables the user to produce uniformly hardened parts, while the higher operating temperature of the quenchant slows the cooling rate during the martensitic transformation (Ms-Mf). Even slower than AAA Quench Oil during martensitic transformation, 420 Quench Oil can be used for applications where distortion must be held to a minimum with little sacrifice in the as-quenched hardness. It is widely used as a quenching medium for carburized and carbonitrided applications.
Fast Quench Oil
AAA Quench Oil is a clear, gold colored product designed to provide maximum cooling rates for austenitized steels. Its formulation guarantees good stability due to its accelerator package which will not stratify out at any temperature nor can it be filtered out. AAA Quench Oil can be used as a quench from temperatures as high as 1750°F and is especially suitable for developing maximum oil quenched hardness in medium and low alloy steels. It is widely used as a quenching medium for carburized and carbonitrided work as well.
AAA Quench Oil is known as a fast quench oil, achieving rapid cooling rates in the nucleate boiling stage immediately following a short vapor phase. It also provides a slower cooling rate through the martensitic transformation range (Ms-Mf) than competitor’s fast quench oils. This ensures higher and deeper hardness levels are created without accompanying distortion of parts. Testing demonstrates AAA Quench Oils’s superior heat removal characteristics are the difference between partial and complete hardening in actual practice.
Overall, distortion in oil quenched parts is proven to be caused by sluggish, non-uniform cooling rates. This is due to the thermal variations and mixed microstructures in the initial stages of the quench which slower quench oils produce. A fast uniform quench is especially important in batchtype carbonitriding furnaces to provide all portions of the load becoming evenly hardened. The quenching rate provided by AAA Quench Oil was designed to satisfy this requirement. Additionally, this low viscosity quench oil drains off parts quickly resulting in less drag-out and is characteristically easier to wash off work after quenching. If left on, it provides a thin film of protection from rust.
You can use AAA Quench Oil with confidence. Your parts will achieve maximum oil quenched hardness with minimum distortion or cracking. Lastly, AAA Quench Oil will produce exceptionally clean, bright work when used within its recommended temperature range.
Quench Brite Marquenching Oil is a martempering oil with medium quenching speed throughout its working range. It is used for tempering and martempering at temperatures up to 375°F (190°C), especially for distortion-prone parts of case hardened or through hardened steels. The higher viscosity of Quench Brite Marquenching oil can help further reduce distortion during quenching compared to Marquench Oil M. You can use MARQUENCH OIL M with confidence. Your parts will achieve maximum oil quenched hardness with minimum distortion or cracking. Lastly, Marquench Oil M will produce exceptionally clean, bright work when used within its recommended temperature range.
Marquench Oil M is a clear, dark amber colored product designed to provide maximum cooling rates for austenitized steels. It is an accelerated quench oil designed for application temperatures between 250 to 350°F (121 – 177°C) and can be used as a quench media for austenized parts at temperatures as high as 1750°F (954°C). Its formulation guarantees good stability due to its accelerator package which will not stratify out at any temperature nor can it be filtered out. The use of this hot oil is commonly encountered in carburizing and carbonitriding furnaces or in operations where parts are prone to distortion and cracking. The accelerated cooling rate during the first stages of quenching enables the user to produce uniformly well hardened parts, while the higher operating temperature of the quenchant slows the cooling rate during martensitic transformation.
Intended for use in Vacuum Furnaces
Vacuum Quench Oil is a clear, gold colored product designed to provide maximum cooling rates for austenitized steels up to 1750°F. Its formulation guarantees good stability due to its accelerator package which will not stratify out at any temperature, nor can it be filtered out. A quench oil used in vacuum furnaces must possess a unique combination of properties which are not required of a regular quench oil. Properties such as flash point, viscosity, etc. are still important; however, a good vacuum quench oil must exhibit a low degree of volatility at the temperature of use in a vacuum. In addition, the quenching rate and thermal stability must be excellent. It is designed primarily for use in vacuum furnaces where quench oil temperatures of 130 – 160°F (54 – 71°C) are encountered. As is true of any vacuum operation, proper conditioning of the quench oil is necessary before starting the operation. The furnace manufacturer’s instructions for “out gassing” should be followed. You can use Vacuum Quench Oil with confidence. Your parts will achieve maximum oil quenched hardness with minimum distortion or cracking. Lastly, it will produce exceptionally clean, bright work when used within its recommended temperature range.
While minimizing part distortion and breakage, DuBois water-based quenchants provide high hardness with fast quenching speed. These products are non-flammable, easy to clean off compared to oil, dilutable to maximize use cost, and resistant to petroleum market price fluctuations.
Aqueous Polymer Quenchant
Alumiquench Pro is a water-based solution of an organic polymer, nitrite corrosion inhibitor, and biocide. The polymer is inversely soluble in water. Above 74°C the polymer falls out as an insoluble precipitate. Below 74°C the polymer dissolves back into solution. During quenching, the polymer deposits on the surface of the hot metal and becomes one of the controlling factors in the heat transfer process from the part into the quenchant. The actual quenching results are determined by the combined action of concentration, temperature, and degree of agitation. It is non-flammable, non-toxic and provides desirable cooling characteristics with minimal environmental impact.
Alumiquench Pro meets the requirements of Aerospace Material Specification 3025, Type 1.
Alumiquench Pro can be used for solution heat treating of a wide range of aluminum alloys such as 2024, 6061 and 7075. Applications include forged, wrought, and cast aluminum parts. It reduces residual stresses and dimensional distortion compared to water quenching.
Alumiquench Pro can be used in open quench tanks and continuous furnaces.
Enviroquench® is an environment friendly water-based polymer quenchant that can provide quenching responses like that of fast quench oils. It is far superior to oil in its safety and environmental characteristics. It is non-flammable, provides desirable cooling characteristics and has more reliable control in use with little or no environmental impact.
Unlike polyalkylene glycols, Enviroquench® is completely water soluble at all concentrations and temperatures. It causes little or no foaming, contains a biocide and is fortified with suitable additives to prevent multi-metal corrosion. At 25% concentration and used at 120°F with good agitation, Enviroquench® provides quenching responses at all stages that approaches those exhibited by fast quench oils. Consequently, those conditions necessary for achieving maximum hardness in steel with minimum distortion or cracking can be realized. To obtain the best results for a particular quenching application, it is highly recommended to optimize the needed operating parameters such as concentration, temperature, agitation, duration of quenching, loading pattern etc. This optimization is essential since different conditions may be required for different steel alloys or parts made of the same steel but differing in size.
Most of the polymer film deposited on metal surfaces during quenching re-dissolves back into the quenchant in the furnace thus minimizing drag-out losses. The remaining film residing on parts after quenching is quickly and completely washed off with ambient temperature tap water.
PAG Steel Quench 100 is a water-based solution of an organic polymer, nitrite corrosion inhibitor, and biocide. The polymer is inversely soluble in water. The actual quenching results are determined by the combined action of concentration, temperature, and degree of agitation. It is non-flammable, non-toxic and provides desirable cooling characteristics with minimal environmental impact.
PAG Steel Quench 100 can be used for hardening ferrous forgings, castings, stampings, and machined parts. It reduces residual stresses and dimensional distortion compared to water quenching.
PAG Steel Quench 100 can be used in open quench tanks, continuous furnaces and induction hardening equipment.
Parquench® 60-XCR is a water solution of an organic polymer with a non-nitrite containing multi-metal corrosion inhibitor. It is low foaming and contains a biocide. The polymer has normal solubility. Consequently, the temperature of use is only limited by the boiling point of water. During quenching in Parquench® 60-XCR solution, the polymer deposits on the surface of the hot metal, thus controlling the heat transfer from the metal to the quenchant. The concentration, temperature, degree of agitation and the time of quenching in the Parquench® 60-XCR solution will determine the manner and rate of the quenching process.
