DuJel Citrus Clings to Vertical Surfaces to Remove Tar from Trucks

OPPORTUNITY:

The customer is a leader in the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. They have historically partnered with DuBois Chemicals on a number of truck washing applications. Motivated by this success, their team requested that their DuBois technical team review the cleaning operations on their tar trucks. These trucks are designed to dispense tar onto a road before asphalt is applied. Because of the tar’s tenacity, the customer had great difficulty cleaning these vehicles. A standard cleaning, performed daily, would involve a minimum of 3 applications of cleaner and a minimum of 3 to 4 hours of cling time. Not only were their chemical and labor requirements costly, but this time condition greatly lowered their efficiency and their truck availability. The customer sought a more time and chemical-efficient process that could still thoroughly remove the tar from their trucks.

THE DUBOIS SOLUTION:

After auditing the customer’s requirements, the DuBois technical team recommended DuJel Citrus as an ideal solution. DuJel Citrus is a ready-to-use heavy duty cleaner. It is a gel that requires no additional mixing or handling. It is solventized specifically for cleaning tar, adhesives, and other heavily soiled machinery. When applied DuJel Citrus clings to surfaces, ensuring intimate contact and superior dwell time on tough soils. The spent chemical and loosened soils are then easily rinsed away with water.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS:

The DuBois technical team performed a trial with DuJel Citrus on a tar truck. In the trial, the truck only required one application of DuJel Citrus to perform as well as multiple applications of the incumbent product. It used 67 to 75% less product in only 25 to 33% of the cleaning time. The customer was very pleased with these results, and excited by the lessened chemical, water, and time requirements. They also noted that, because the gel product clings to the surface, the labor requirement was significantly decreased.
The customer implemented DuJel Citrus into their standard tar truck cleaning process and have also begun using it on their other trucks and paving equipment. They continue to be very satisfied and look forward to identifying future process improvements with their DuBois team.
