Case Studies:

Elim Iron’s Rapid Two Day Cleanup Procedure Solves Difficult Water Contaminations and Prevents Future Scale Depositions

The customer’s closed loop water system

OPPORTUNITY:

The customer is a manufacturing company that specializes in engineering, molding, and assembly. The customer has historically utilized DuBois Chemicals for surface finishing and metalworking applications. The manufacturer reached out to their DuBois technical team to request assistance with their closed loop system, the water tank pictured right. Upon testing, this water, which exhibited a bright red hue, had a microbial count of 490,000 cfu/mL and an iron level of 33 ppm. We target less than 10,000 cfu/mL and 0 ppm iron. Contamination, especially at this degree, can cause a variety of issues, including a significant decrease in system efficiency, deposits and sustained damage to equipment, and detriment to personnel and environmental health and safety.

THE DUBOIS SOLUTION:

Due to the severity of the situation, the DuBois technical team implemented an immediate Rapid Two Day Cleanup Procedure, using Elim-Iron. Elim-Iron is a non-acid metal oxide descalant, ideal for controlling iron oxide deposition issues in closed loops and both iron oxide and hardness-based scales in steam boilers. It’s combination of sequestrants and dispersants will soften
and promote removal of iron oxide deposits wherever they are found. Elim-Iron can also be used as an effective preventative anti-scalant additive to inhibit the deposition of iron oxide onto system surfaces.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS:

Following the Two Day Cleanup, the water was returned to acceptable microbial and iron levels. It’s color also returned to clear colorless, from the dark red it was previously. Elim-Iron has been written into their standard operating procedures to prevent future scale and deposition. In addition to the quick and effective solution Elim-Iron provided, additional benefits include the following:
• Restores Efficiency: Elim-Iron removes energy-robbing deposits and restores efficiency in water systems.
• Safety: Due to its neutral pH, Elim-Iron is safer for operator use and safe on a variety of surfaces including mild steel, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and most plastic and elastomeric compounds.
• Flexibility: Elim-Iron can be used on many deposits to promote a slow, gradual cleanup or for quick, short-term removal.
• Easy disposal: Elim-Iron’s neutral pH makes neutralization unnecessary before disposal of used cleaning solutions.
