STANDARD INHIBITED GLYCOL

Du-Frost™

Du-Frost is a cost-effective solution with a proven inhibitor package that will save you time, money, and resources. It is designed to be diluted with high quality, demineralized water to the glycol concentration needed either for freeze/burst protection or as recommended by the manufacturer for a chiller or other heat exchange equipment.

Key Properties:

•  Low acute toxicity of propylene glycol makes it a safer-to-use alternative to toxic ethylene glycol.
•  Phosphate-based inhibitor controls corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous “yellow” metal surfaces.

Du-Frost™ HD

Du-Frost HD is created with a robust inhibition package that extends its useful life through excellent buffering capacities and a higher operating temperature tolerance. It is designed for the control of corrosion and deposition in industrial closed heating and cooling systems that require freeze protection or boiling point elevation.

Key Properties:

•  Heavy duty inhibition and buffering package designed to keep system free of corrosion and minimize glycol breakdown, even in industrial systems with high amounts of contamination potential.
•  Low acute oral toxicity of propylene glycol makes this product safer and more environmentally friendly heat transfer fluid than those made with ethylene glycol.
•  Premium inhibition package controls corrosion of both ferrous and non-ferrous “Yellow” metal surfaces.
•  Heavily buffered to extend heat transfer fluid life by compensating for naturally occurring acidic glycol degradation.

Du-Frost™ FG

Du-Frost FG uses a food-grade, dye-free inhibitor package that also provides additional, unique yellow metal inhibition. It is designed for the control of corrosion in food plant closed heating and cooling systems that require freeze protection or boiling point elevation.

Key Properties:

•  FDA compliant for incidental food contact as all materials in the product are Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) in accordance with 21CFR 184.166, 21CFR 182.6285, and 21CFR 182.3640.
•  Best diluted with purified water (demineralized) but usable with most low hardness water.
•  Controls corrosion of both yellow metals and ferrous metals.
•  Heavily buffered to extend heat transfer fluid life by compensating for naturally occurring acidic glycol degradation products.

Du-Frost Delivers Excellent Corrosion Protection While Saving on Cost

Opportunity

The customer is a leading producer of power solutions that manufactures engines, generators, and other machine components. They sought a reliable inhibited propylene glycol for use in their engine flushing process. To clean the system without damaging metal components, the glycol solution needed to provide excellent corrosion protection during system flushing while simultaneously being compatible with a range of metals and engine materials.
The manufacturer turned to their local DuBois technical team for support, hoping to maintain operational reliability and quality while reducing overall operating costs.

The DuBois Solution

The DuBois technical team recommended Du-Frost, our innovative inhibited propylene glycol heat transfer solution. Du-Frost is formulated with a high-quality inhibition package that is safe on all metals, excluding aluminum. The low acute toxicity of propylene glycol makes it a safer-to-use alternative to toxic ethylene glycol, while a phosphate-based inhibitor controls corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous “yellow” metal surfaces.
While commonly used as a heat transfer fluid in closed-loop and cooling systems, its balanced inhibitor package and material compatibility made Du-Frost well suited for the customer’s flushing process.

Du-Frost was introduced into the manufacturer’s existing flushing procedures. At a 90% glycol dilution ratio, Du-Frost was utilized to flush a 95L engine after it ran through the test cells.
After this switch, it was noted that the engine manufacturer maintained the same level of corrosion protection as with their previous fluid while achieving measurable cost savings. With Du-Frost, the customer was on track to save over $13,000 a year, including receiving better lead times on shipping.
Du-Frost delivered reliable corrosion protection at a lower cost, meeting the manufacturer’s process requirements and financial goals. Its formulation is built on proven heat transfer fluid technology, providing dependable performance in the engine flushing process and demonstrating that high-quality protection and cost savings can go hand in hand.
The DuBois dedication to product quality, timely delivery, and technical expertise ensured the customer received consistent value throughout the transition. This reliability in both product quality and supply reinforced the manufacturer’s confidence in partnering with DuBois.
The team continues to be pleased with the performance of Du-Frost and looks forward to our continued partnership.
